Adding hosts

A host is a saved server. In Hosts, click + to open the editor.

Field Example
Name My Server what the list shows
Address example.com or 192.168.1.1 hostname or IP
Port 22 defaults to Settings → General → Default Port
Username root defaults to Settings → General → Default Username
Connect through Directly or another saved host as a jump host

Choose a Method:

Method What it uses
Password a password, saved in the macOS Keychain
SSH Key a private key file such as ~/.ssh/id_ed25519 — Browse to pick it
SSH Agent the keys already loaded in your SSH agent (ssh-add), including agents like 1Password’s or Secretive

Keys can be Ed25519 or RSA in the OpenSSH format. If a key has a passphrase, Termini asks for it the first time and keeps it in the Keychain. Termini needs access to ~/.ssh to read key files there.

Optional, per host:

Field
Theme this host’s terminal colours, or Use global setting — handy to make production look different
Font this host’s terminal font, or Use global setting
Start in directory cd here after connecting, e.g. /var/www
Run on connect a command to run after connecting, e.g. tmux attach || tmux new

Tunnels that open with this host — see Port forwarding.

Group, tags, colour and notes — see Organizing hosts.

Test Connection tries to connect with what you’ve entered and shows Connected or Failed with the reason, before you save. Errors are specific: Authentication failed, Host unreachable, Connection refused, Timed out.

The free version keeps up to 5 saved hosts; Termini Pro removes the limit.
