Troubleshooting

Termini can’t see my SSH keys or ~/.ssh/config

Section titled “Termini can’t see my SSH keys or ~/.ssh/config”

Termini runs in the macOS App Sandbox and can only read ~/.ssh after you allow it. Open Settings → Keys and click Grant Access to ~/.ssh, then select the .ssh folder (press ⇧⌘. to show hidden folders). Termini remembers the grant.

Error Means Check
Authentication failed the server rejected the user, password or key the username; the key is in the server’s authorized_keys; the key’s passphrase
Host unreachable no route to the address the address, your network, a VPN you need
Connection refused nothing listening on that port the port; that sshd is running
Timed out no answer in time firewalls; raise Settings → General → Connection Timeout for slow links

For a jump host, the error names which hop failed.

Termini supports passphrase-protected OpenSSH keys (Ed25519 and RSA). Enter it when asked; it’s kept in the Keychain so you aren’t asked again. Keys in other formats (PuTTY .ppk) need converting first: ssh-keygen -p -f key or PuTTYgen.

See Host keys: accept only if you expected the change.

The local pane can always use Downloads. For any other folder, click Choose local folder and pick it, so the sandbox grants access.

Look at the error in the Transfers queue. Check the remote folder is writable and the server has space, then Try again. If it keeps failing, email us the error text.

The free version browses up to 3 servers at once. Close one, or get Termini Pro.
