Minecraft

Minecraft plans run Paper, a high-performance Minecraft: Java Edition server that also runs Bukkit and Spigot plugins. The EULA is accepted for you during installation.

In Minecraft, Multiplayer → Add Server, and enter the address from your ready email — host:port, as shown at the top of the server in the panel. The port matters: your server isn’t on Minecraft’s default 25565.

In Startup:

Variable Default Set to
MINECRAFT_VERSION latest a release such as 1.21.4 to pin it
BUILD_NUMBER latest a Paper build number, to pin the build too

Then Settings → Reinstall server to download that version, and start the server. Back up first: a world opened by a newer version can’t go back to an older one.

In the Console, run:

op YourPlayerName

Without a leading slash, since you’re the server’s console. Other everyday commands: whitelist add <name>, whitelist on, say <message>, save-all, stop.

Edit server.properties in Files — motd, difficulty, gamemode, max-players, white-list, view-distance — then restart. Leave server-port alone: it’s set to the port your plan was given.

Drop Paper, Bukkit or Spigot plugin .jar files into plugins/ (in Files or over SFTP) and restart. Most plugins write their config to plugins/<Name>/config.yml on first start. Plugins that need MySQL can use the databases your plan includes.

  1. Stop the server.
  2. Zip your world folder on your computer, upload the zip in Files, and extract it. Or upload the folder with SFTP.
  3. Name it world (or set level-name in server.properties to its name). Paper keeps the Nether and the End in world_nether and world_the_end next to it.
  4. Start the server.

The server uses up to your plan’s memory (4 GB or 8 GB) — you don’t need to set -Xmx. If the console shows OutOfMemoryError or the server keeps restarting under load, lower view-distance, remove heavy plugins, pre-generate the world, or move to the 8 GB plan.

A nightly restart and backup keep a busy server healthy: see Schedules.
