What Slate is

Slate, at slate.fleeq.net, is a free library of large photographs. It searches several image sources at once, merges the results into one feed, and shows only images that are big enough for a desktop wallpaper, a banner or a hero image.

Source What it adds
Pexels photography of every kind, from Pexels’s photographers
NASA space, Earth and astronomy imagery from NASA’s image library

Results from each source are interleaved into one feed, so one search covers them all. Each image keeps its source’s license — see Licensing.

Slate shows only images at least 3,000 pixels wide. Anything smaller is left out of the feed, whatever its source. Downloads are the original file at full resolution: no thumbnails, no recompression, no watermark.

Choose a display ratio — 16:9, 21:9, 27:9 or 32:9 — and the feed shows only images whose shape is close to it, so what you pick fills a standard, ultrawide or super-ultrawide screen without awkward cropping. See Display ratio.

There’s nothing to sign up for. The images you like and download are remembered in your browser only — see Likes & downloads.
